Abril's work focuses on supporting and accompanying companies on their path toward sustainability-driven transformation. In particular, Abril specializes in analyzing how climate change will affect business models in various sectors at both the national and regional (Latin America) levels. Abril focuses on analyzing climate, physical, and transitional risks, as well as natural risks, as inputs for adaptation and decarbonization strategies. Her experience includes the aviation, food and beverage, and energy sectors.

In addition to being a manager in the Climate Change and Sustainability Area (CCaSS Mexico), Abril currently serves as a researcher for Ernst & Young's New Economy Unit. This unit focuses on understanding the underlying causes of the polycrisis we face and the principles of a regenerative economy that can guide more sustainable trajectories for the private sector. The current research project addresses structural barriers (such as shareholder primacy and fiduciary duty) that privilege a focus on short-term profits, hindering long-term investments in sustainability. Abril has experience in the public, private, social, and academic sectors in Latin America, including Mexico, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador, and Cuba.

In terms of academics, Abril is a biologist with a specialization in environmental and ecological economics, a master's degree in science, and a doctorate in sustainability sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In addition, Abril has completed academic stays at the University of York and Arizona State University (ASU).
