Patricia Pérez Belmont

Patricia works in the field of transformations for sustainability in socio-ecological contexts by creating and facilitating participatory and collaborative spaces and processes that seek to articulate diverse knowledge and cultures in order to promote collective action towards just and sustainable futures.

Patricia trained as a biologist with a master's degree in biological sciences and also completed a doctorate in sustainability sciences, all at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Patricia has extensive experience in designing and coordinating projects with diverse social actors using interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, participatory tools, and methodological pluralism. Some of the topics addressed in these projects relate to the creation of collaborative networks for sustainability, the implementation of sustainable production practices for conservation, the monitoring of aquatic socio-ecological systems, and citizen science, among others.

As part of her career and professional training, she has dedicated herself to teaching and adult literacy, as well as teaching biology at the high school level and in the Biology degree program at the UNAM Faculty of Sciences. Patricia has published scientific and popular science articles, participated in national and international conferences, and served as an associate editor for indexed journals. Due to her experience and track record, she was invited by the US Department of State, through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of its embassy in Mexico, to participate in the “International Visitor Leadership Program, Environmental Engagement and the Economy.”

Patricia is currently the Director of Umbela Transformaciones Sostenibles and also collaborates with the University Seminar on Society, Environment, and Institutions (SUSMAI) at UNAM.
